UK 2008 ABERDEEN ROCK CHALLENGE
THE THEMES

EXPRESS YOUR OPINION IN OUR POLL

ARBROATH ACADEMY, Arbroath, Angus
"Anti-Bullying"

Our theme is anti-bullying. The pupils express their feelings through dance around the three types of bullying, internet, verbal and physical.

BANFF ACADEMY, Banff, Aberdeenshire
"All Work and No Play, or All Play and No Work"

Growing up brings lots of dilemmas and decisions have to be made. Spend all of your time working, and suffering stress, or spend all of your time partying and getting nowhere ? Will Little Red Riding Hood take the right path ?

BRAEVIEW ACADEMY, Dundee
"Gangsters Through The Ages"

In every city in the world, people reach out for kinship and a sense of belonging. Who wouldn't ? But what happens when friendship, love and trust turn to blood, lust and betrayal ? Will there ever be a time when we can look beyond race, colour and creed to find a better, brighter world ? We believe there can.

ELLON ACADEMY, Ellon, Aberdeenshire
"Dying To Be Thin"

What is perfection ? Who decides ? Follow our three girls dying to look like their role models. What lengths will they go to in their hunger to become Size Zero ?

FRASERBURGH ACADEMY, Fraserburgh, Aberdeenshire
"Curiouser and Curiouser"

Join Alice on a trip through the looking-glass as she does battle with the inner demons that threaten to consume her. Follow her as she fights her way through the temptations offered to her. Will her curiosity get the better of her or will she defeat them before time runs out ?

KEITH GRAMMAR SCHOOL, Keith, Aberdeenshire
"Toys Against the Machine"

In an age where technology rules and imagination lives inside the computer screen and television, what will happen to tradition and the chance for children just to play ?

MACKIE ACADEMY, Stonehaven, Kincardineshire
"Look Beyond the Mask"

In today's culture, looks are an important factor in daily life but can be deceiving. In our performance we look beyond typical stereotypes and show people for who they really are. Out message in an old one: don't judge a book by its cover - look beyond the mask.

OLDMACHAR ACADEMY, Aberdeen
"Help us Stand"

Boys and girls come out to play
In their cradles they'll never stay.
Parents wish with all their hearts
That their children will play their part.
But as we grow and as we change
And life around us becomes so strange
It's now we need our parents' hand
To guide us through and help us stand.

PETERHEAD ACADEMY, Peterhead, Aberdeenshire
"Don't Judge a Book by its Cover"

At Peterhead Academy the pupils are excited about receiving their work-experience placements. However, Claire is not impressed when she finds out she will be working in a library. But, are the dusty, old books as boring as they seem ?

ST MACHAR ACADEMY, Aberdeen
"Life Together"

War costs lives. The price is too high. Everyone pays. How long can we allow this tragedy to continue ?

TORRY ACADEMY, Aberdeen
"War ! What Is It Good For ?"

Every three minutes a child dies because of armed conflict across the world. With this in mind we have set our performance in 1940s London, during the Blitz. Through a lost child's eyes we see the effects and struggles of war, as we follow in her lonely search for her mother.

TURRIFF ACADEMY, Turriff, Aberdeenshire
"Enjoy Your Trip ?"

LSD is a hallucinatory drug, which is sold in tab form. These acid tabs often depict cartoon characters to symbolise fun and escape from reality. However, who knows what might happen if, like Vicky, you encounter the Pink Panther. Will her trip be soft and spaced out or sudden and sinister ?
