I didn't receive all the themes for all the teams who entered into the 2006 Rock Challenge, so this page (and it's a loooong page :) isn't comprehensive. However, there should be enough here to give teams (and new teams in particular) a flavour of what's been going on around the UK.

    Our performance is based on domestic abuse and how today's society often overlooks the signs of a family which appears normal on the surface, yet is affected by such abuse on the inside. As our main character will show, that both men and women need to find the courage to leave abusive situations and seek help.

Even in Paris, the beautiful city of romance and love, heroin can lure you into its evil clutches, imprisoning and destroying your soul, your 'reason for being'. Have strength, have self-belief, love yourself. Love? A force, which can overcome anything. Love...the power with which you can conquer all.

    Our performance reflects concerns highlighted in recent media coverage about "Global Warming" and its impact on the environment. In our performance we explore climate change and its effect on the world around us. We pose the question, "How can we as individuals and as a community bring about positive changes in order to slow down the effect of "Global Warming?""

    Larkin Community College's play was inspired by the film 'Honey' and the Munch's painting The 'Scream1. We know that if we believe, we will get there. Always follow your dreams and believe in yourself. Jealousy can stop us believing in ourselves. Jealousy will get us nowhere in life. Forgiveness heals and makes us better people. This is what we believe.

    Sarah doesn't fit in at school. She wants to be noticed, but unfortunately she is noticed for the wrong reasons. Sick of being bullied by the Ravens, she bunks off school and spends the best day with her dad. The confidence Sarah gains from this day enables her to confront the Ravens. The girls united come together and dance.

"Second Chance"

    "Second Chance" is about a guy who gets a second chance at life. He grows up in poverty, commits a crime to get money and ends up in jail. When he's in jail he rethinks his life and decides that crime is not for him. He becomes a train driver and adds back to society.

    The Human Spirit triumphs in the face of adversity. The Second World War saw devastation and death reigning throughout the world.     As a child, all Natalie dreamed about was being a dancer. With her audition drawing near, watch her twirl through the streets, groove on the underground and leap through the park. She deals with bullies and builders and is even an inspiration for children. The theatre appears ... believe in yourself, Natalie, fingers crossed and dance, like no-one is watching !!!

    This performance explores how media-created gender stereotypes enforce a code of behaviour almost from birth. But we do not have to accept this "Mould" imposed upon us. We can stop being victims and break free.

    Natural disasters are always in the news. The power of nature reminds us how insignificant we are, and the Tsunami on Boxing Day in 2004 brought home to people how easy it is to be caught up in circumstances with devastating consequences. However, we also wanted to stress how adaptable the human race is, coping with tragedy and rebuilding lives.

    As students arrive in the school yard, a helicopter hovers over the depressing school. Students show a lack of respect, they are very anti-education. Through extra-curricular activities the challenging students develop values, respect and understand the need for rules. The students become more positive and focused which results in them making better choices. Thankful for those days.

    The world has gone crazy for reality TV. It seems that anyone will do anything to achieve celebrity status. The egomaniac can become corrupted, manipulated and quite literally treated like a puppet for our viewing pleasure. So does reality TV really offer the key to a dream - or a nightmare ?

    King Polydectes sets Perseus the ultimate challenge, to retrieve the head of the Gorgon Medusa, a deed said to require the maximum of heroic-male courage and skill. Guided by the Goddess Athena, Perseus embarks on a treacherous quest, encountering Nymphs, witches and unspeakable peril. Can he defeat the "serpent-haired" Medusa and save his mother from the evil, embittered king?

    The FBI in America in the 1960's was under the leadership of J.Edgar Hoover. Conspiracy theories and crime statistics were unofficially rising. Organised crime circles and mafia mob involvement forced J.Edgar to act drastically. Big Brother was watching everyone and paranoia induced fear was as close as your nearest telephone.

    Homelessness is an age-old problem. It is something that happens to someone else, something that must have been "their" fault, something society finds easier to ignore and turn away from than to embrace. Our performance highlights the plight of those who have nowhere to go and nowhere to turn. Sometimes there seems no way out.

Fish swimming freely but not for long, tangled up, our freedom gone!

    Hawaii was known as the "party posting" by American servicemen. Their government had no plans to enter the war and they enjoyed an island paradise, unaware of the Japanese spies in their midst. Oblivious to the danger they had fun in the sea, until that fateful day, a day that will live in infamy!

    Three sailors dock in New York city and they have just 24 hours' leave for a whirlwind tour of America. The audience is taken along on their individual journeys where they meet lots of different characters and become involved in all kinds of situations.     Our time traveller happens upon three different time zones which he can spend only a limited amount of time in. In each zone he stumbles into a dance of the day which - after a struggle - he masters, but only just before he is sent up into space and away again. This Production is a metaphor for dealing with change.

Danielle's death shocked and upset everyone and led to the public demonstration marking the moment when the community stood together against gun crime.

Ancient Greece, Democracy, Theatre and the Olympics were our stimuli. 5 rings, one for each continent, never-ending circles symbolizing unity and eternity, help communicate our message.     Our piece explores the fears and frustrations, the challenges and triumphs of dyslexia. We use gremlins to represent the confusion and doubt that affect dyslexics when letters, numbers and symbols become muddled. We show how aspects of dyslexia can be overcome, self-esteem developed and success achieved. Many famous people in all walks of life are dyslexic.

    Our piece explores the concepts of democracy and equality. Achieving a democratic society has always been a challenge. We refer to the speech of Martin Luther King in an attempt to show that everyone should have independence, rights and the freedom to a voice to express their views.
